Become a Bus Coach Minibus Driver with Us

We have positions available from part-time school minibus drivers to full time bus and coach drivers. Our driving training process provides a high-quality experience, guiding you through every step.

We train people from all walks of life to become professional drivers, from parents returning to work, retirees, or those simply looking for a change of career.

Typical positions are:

  • Full time bus and coach driver – A variety of work, usually over five or six days including weekends.
  • School bus driver – Working at morning and afternoon school run times. School holidays and weekends off.
  • School minibus driver – Working at morning and afternoon school run times, taking children with special needs to and from education. School holidays and weekends off.

Your journey as a trainee driver

  • Complete the online application form.
  • Attend a face to face interview, including a test drive in a van.
  • Complete DVLA paperwork, including a medical that we arrange.
  • Complete DVSA Theory, Hazard Perception and Case Study.
  • Practical on-road training, followed by a driving test.
  • Take to the roads as a qualified driver.

Frequently asked questions

I’m already a qualified and experienced driver. Can I still apply?

Of course, please fill in our application form.

Do I have to pay for the training?

Chalkwell pay for the training and fees. If you leave your employment within two years you will be required to pay back a proportionate amount.

How long does the training take?

Once accepted as a trainee the process takes around 12-14 weeks.

I’m currently in employment. Can I keep doing my job while I train?

Yes, you can. You will need to take time off from your current job in order to attend driver training.

I’m currently claiming Job Seekers Allowance. Can I still train with you?

Yes, we work with the Job Centres to get people back into work.

I don’t have a car licence, so can I still train?

Unfortunately no, you need to have a car driving licence first.

I’ve got points on my driving licence. Does this matter?

Depending on what they are for and when they expire, we will accept up to six penalty points on a licence.

My driving licence says I can already drive a minibus. Do I still need training?

You do need training if you have the 101 code (not for hire or reward) on the back of your licence card.
