Chalkwell Provide Discounted Bus Tickets for Hospital Workers

Sittingbourne bus operator Chalkwell have formed a partnership with Medway NHS Foundation Trust, which will see discounted travel for people who work at Medway Maritime Hospital. There are over 5,400 working on the site, with many travelling from outside of the immediate area. The discount is approximately 30% of the usual Adult Saver daily and seven day tickets, and the prices will be:

£5 for a daily ticket
£17 for a seven day ticket

Chalkwell operates the 326/327 bus service between Sittingbourne and Chatham, which runs Monday to Saturday. There are also other Chalkwell bus services that operate in Sittingbourne and Sheppey, on which the passes can be used for unlimited travel. Ticket holders can transfer between services just by scanning their ticket on boarding.

Tickets can be purchased on the bus, using cash or contactless payment. The discounted tickets will be available from 22nd April.

Managing Director of Chalkwell, Roland Eglinton said “We are delighted to have worked with the Trust to put this scheme in place. Parking at the hospital is a problem, and the cost of travelling by rail is prohibitive for many. Not only can Trust employees use the discounted tickets to get to work, but they can also travel around the rest of network in Swale and Medway when they aren’t working.
