Better Value for Bus Passengers from Swale and Maidstone

From 24 July bus passengers travelling within Swale and to Maidstone will be able to take advantage of cheaper fares when they use more than one bus operator.

The Swale Plus ticket has been expanded to include both Chalkwell and Stagecoach and prices will be reduced by Kent County Council (KCC) for at least three months with funding from the government’s Bus Service Improvement Plan grant. The ticket can be used on both operators, meaning people travelling from Sheppey who need to change at Sittingbourne only pay once.
A day ticket is priced at £5.50 with a weekly version available for £20. This covers journeys throughout Swale, as well as the route to Maidstone. The normal price for a day ticket is £6.30 and the weekly ticket is ordinarily priced at £23.10.

There are also offers available for people aged under 19 and those travelling as a family.

KCC’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, David Brazier, said: “With the school holidays approaching, I am pleased that people will be able to take advantage of these cheaper fares.
“Working with bus operators and government KCC has been able to secure this lower fare, making it cheaper for people to travel between Swale and Maidstone.“This will make travelling on the bus more attractive whether that be to meet friends and family, for work or leisure.” Passengers will be able to purchase and use their tickets from Monday 24th July and the offer will initially run for three months.

Roads Minister, Richard Holden, said: “This new scheme will help unlock opportunities for passengers across north Kent, by giving them access to cheaper fares and easier journeys, supporting them with the cost of living. “We want everyone up and down the country to have a modern, reliable, and affordable public transport system. That is why we have supported Kent County Council with more than £37 million to boost its bus services.”

Tickets can be purchased from either Chalkwell or Stagecoach, either on buses or online. Visit the Chalkwell website for more information on the new 334 service between Sittingbourne and Sheppey, which meets the Stagecoach X3 in Sittingbourne.
